Tongue and Groove Plane – J. Gleave & Sons – Oldham St – Manchester

This is a right-handed tongue and groove plane made by J. Gleave & Sons from the 19th century.

Established in 1833 and based on  Oldham StreetJ. Gleave & Sons originally traded has Wooden Plane Manufacturers and Dealers of Tools and Sheffield Cutlery in an area which now forms part of what is commonly referred to has the Northern Quarter; an historic district in Manchester containing many buildings from before WW2.

J. Gleave & Sons Ltd in 2012 is a  limited company that is now a supplier of specialist equipment selling tools, safety products and site equipment.

J. Gleave & Sons Ltd since its early beginnings has followed a successful model of diversification that started in the 1800s with the introduction of the metal based plane and has continued into the 21st century with such contracts as the one with Ministry of Defence, to which it supplies tool abrasives, tapes, sealants and pneumatics electric.

Joseph Gleave & Sons Ltd is now based at 995 Chester Road in Stretford.
