I have been in discussion with Urban Splash for over 12 months since the NWDA announced to them that they were withdrawing their support for the enveloping scheme which Urban Splash had submitted a bid for grant monies for and to which they had been given “verbal” encouragement to proceed with - hence the scaffolding which was erected to undertake those works. The withdrawal of the grant is a direct result of the Coalition Governments deficit reduction plans.
Albeit that I am not surprised at the outcomes of the work that Heritage Works have undertaken and a decision that the building should be demolished I am surprised that this matter has not been discussed with me in advance of any public announcement and therefore I have not had the opportunity to brief either Bradford or indeed Ancoats & Clayton Members. I will take this matter up with Urban Splash and determine what the outcomes of the discussions have been with English Heritage and the Planning Department. I will provide you with a synopsis of these discussions when they have taken place.
